HK$20 night-time flat fee for three cross-harbour tunnels as ExCo accepts proposal: source
The toll adjustment proposals for traffic rationalisation among the three cross-harbour tunnels has been approved by the Executive Council on Tuesday, according to sources.
The toll for Cross Harbour Tunnel and Eastern Harbor Crossing is set to be increased to HK$30 for private cars starting in August, while that for Western Harbor Crossing will be reduced to HK$60.
A source said the government would like to set the toll fee for all three tunnels at night to HK$20 for private cars by the end of this year.
As for taxis, the charge for the three tunnels will be set at HK$25, whether or not the taxi is carrying any passenger.
The government earlier announced to adopt a two-step strategy in adjusting the tolls of three cross-harbor tunnels. The first step is to change the toll differential for private cars at all cross-harbor tunnels in August and to set a uniform toll for taxis, and the next step is to introduce "time-varying tolls" within a year.
It is understood that more details will be released on Wednesday.
