Hiker dies in hospital after being airlifted from Lantau trail where he collapsed
A hiker died in hospital on Tuesday after being airlifted from a hiking trail at Cheung Shan on Lantau Island, where he had collapsed while trekking.
The man in his 60s was hiking in Lantau North Country Park when the incident happened at around 1pm.
It is understood that other hikers filed a report to authorities after they found the victim passed out on the trail.
A Government Flying Service helicopter was deployed to the scene and airlifted the unconscious man to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in Chai Wan, where he died after resuscitation attempts.
Officials are reaching out to the victim’s family for more information on the man to establish the cause of death.
