Ground floor of Sha Tin Town Hall cordoned off over falling concrete
The entire ground floor of the Sha Tin Town Hall has been closed for an urgent inspection after a janitor found two pieces of concrete that had fallen onto the false ceiling in the women’s washroom.
The cleaner first found the abnormality in the false ceiling on Thursday and notified the town hall staff. The staff immediately arranged for inspections and discovered that two pieces of concrete had fallen onto the false ceiling.
The concrete pieces didn’t damage the false ceiling or fall inside the washroom. No injury was reported during the incident.
Upon further checking, officers from the Architectural Services Department (ASD) also discovered a minor abnormality in some of the ceiling above the corridor yesterday (Fri), and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) immediately cordoned off the area concerned.
LCSD said they attach great importance to the incident, and the entire ground floor of Sha Tin Town Hall has been closed today for an urgent inspection. Affected users of the facilities there have also been informed of the closure.
LCSD has also requested the ASD to thoroughly inspect the ceilings in other parts of the City Hall, and officers soon arrived at the scene to assist and arrange maintenance work.
