Govt vaccine committee agree on jabs for kids below three

The government vaccine committee approved Covid-19 jabs for kids aged under three.
The Scientific Committee on Vaccine Preventable Diseases and the Scientific Committee on Emerging and Zoonotic Diseases agreed on lowering the age of Covid vaccination to six months to three years old after a meeting on Monday.

Meanwhile, Joseph Tsang Kay-yan, co-chairman of the Medical Association's advisory committee on communicable diseases, said that if the scientific data proved the vaccine is safe and effective for young children, the association would call on parents to arrange their children to get jabbed as soon as possible.

He said the dose for young children is one-tenth of adults, and the needle will be smaller. If the vaccination age gets lowered, the government will have to purchase the vaccine for children from pharmaceutical companies.

Tsang also mentioned the U.S. and Canada had approved the emergency use of two vaccines for young children last month, but local parents gave only little response.

He said maybe the foreign government not explaining enough which resulted in some parents are holding back. He added that if Hong Kong decided to lower the age of vaccination, the government has to clearly explain the arrangement and the details to the parents.
