The Lands Department will resume 379 private lots in Yuen Long for the implementation of the first phase of the Yuen Long South Development.
The lots, with a total area of about 19 hectares, will be resumed under the Lands Resumption Ordinance and the Roads (Works, Use & Compensation) Ordinance. The land will be reverted to the government on August 20.
The development includes site formation and engineering infrastructure works for forming sites to develop public housing, multi-story buildings for accommodating brownfield operations, village resite areas, public open spaces, and sections of Environmentally Friendly Transport Services reserve.
The Yuen Long South Development is positioned as an extension of Yuen Long New Town.
The current proposed development plan will provide about 32,900 housing units for a new population of about 98,700 and provide approximately 13,700 employment opportunities.
Authorities are now handling the compensation and rehousing matters of the relevant landowners, affected households, and business undertakings and will complete the follow-up work of the relevant cases before clearance begins.
A government spokesperson said the enabling works under the first phase of development are critical to the smooth implementation of the whole Yuen Long South Development.
