Government resumes three private lands in Fanling and Yuen Long for subsidized housing
The government said today it will resume three private lands with a total area of about 12,300 square meters in Fanling and Yuen Long, to build around 1,600 flats of subsidized housing, together with adjoining government land of about 3,500 square meters.
The Development Bureau said the land will be resumed under the Lands Resumption Ordinance, and has commenced pre-clearance surveys at all three land parcels today.
The three lands were situated at San Wan Road near Wong Kong Shan in Fanling, Shap Pat Heung Road near Lung Tin Tsuen in Yuen Long, and near the junction of Yuen Lung Street and Yau Tin East Road in Yuen Long respectively.
The bureau said the current-term government has intensified its efforts to expedite development projects, with both the extent and pace of land resumption significantly increased in recent years.
“Within a two-year time frame in 2019-20 and 2020-21, the Government resumed around 90 hectares of land, which is much more than the 20 hectares resumed over the immediate past five years,” said a spokesman of the bureau.
The spokesman also added that 500 hectares of land are expected to be resumed in the next five years.
