Gleneagles Hospital nurse resigned following medical malpractice
Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong said on Tuesday that a nurse had resigned for personal reasons after she wrongfully administered medication to a patient through intravenous injection instead of intramuscular injection.
Responding to media inquiries, the hospital said the incident happened on March 1 after the patient sought medical attention at the A&E department that day.
It said after the doctor prescribed medication to the patient, the nurse had wrongfully administered the medication to the patient through intravenous injection.
The doctor immediately noticed the mistake and arranged for the patient another check-up, and had closely monitored the patient’s situation. The patient’s condition remain stable and was discharged later, the hospital added.
The hospital spokesman said Gleneagles attaches great importance to the incident and had since apologized and explained to the patient regarding the matter.
The hospital alerted health authorities of the incident within 24 hours and will review its handling process and strengthen its training, the spokesman said.
