Executive Council convenor Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee said Hong Kong could ease further its Covid curbs should there be no rebound in cases after the Hong Kong Sevens.
The three-day event is set to kick off at 3.40pm today.
Ip said today that the games will be a test for Hong Kong, with around 26,000 spectators at the games, while drinking and eating is allowed on the stands.
She said if the
Covid tally has not gone up after the games, the city will be able to again relax social distancing measures.
Meanwhile, the exco convenor said it is a positive sign that some of the anti-epidemic measures on the mainland have been lifted under the country’s “dynamic
Covid-zero” strategy, including the removal of a nucleic acid testing requirement for travelers on trains and planes.
However, she cited people familiar with the matter as saying there would be no drastic change in the country’s anti-epidemic measures before Spring break.
