Friday sees the most couples tie the knot on May 20 in four years
Over 400 couples are getting married on Friday -- May 20 is pronounced as "I love you" in Putonghua -- the highest on this day in four years.
According to the latest figure from the Immigration Department, 402 couples intended to register for marriage on Friday, making it the most popular May 20 in four years.
Among the applications, 136 couples planned to register at the Marriage Registry, 263 said they would arrange a marriage celebrant, and three applied for marriages in a licensed place of worship.
This came after restaurants could stay open for dining-in services until midnight, and the maximum number of people at a banquet has been raised to 120 starting from Thursday.
In 2021, 212 couples registered marriage on May 20, while the number in 2020 and 2019 were 146 and 269 respectively.
