Friday Beyond Spotlights – Special Bonus Episode: The Spirit of Lion Rock

Turbo-charge your business, career and can-do Lion Rock Spirit with insights and heart-warming stories from some of the most extraordinary people who share a boundless love for Hong Kong and a passion to create a better shared future for the world in this special bonus episode of Friday Beyond Spotlights, airing tonight on the Hong Kong International Business Channel (#76).
This special bonus episode marks the completion of Season 2 of the informative yet light-hearted program, which is co-hosted by businessman and philanthropist Patrick Tsang On-yip, lawyer and lawmaker Nick Chan Hiu-fung, and seasoned business maverick Herman Hu Shao-ming.

Nick Chan said with a smile that this special edition aims to celebrate the shared success of Hong Kong with first-hand knowledge and stories of grit, passion and compassion overcoming tribulations with fiercely strong Lion Rock Spirit from leaders and game changers. “By taking an introspective look at some past episodes, we can together unwind, reset and reflect on the present, and plan to fast forward for a greater shared future.”

A total of 25 prominent guests appeared on the program in the last two seasons, representing a wide spectrum of sectors, including political and business circles. These include the current and former Chief Executive of Hong Kong, senior government officials and advisors, business and industry leaders, entrepreneurs, renowned professors and experts, sports, arts and culture professionals, as well as an internationally renowned actor and producer.

With the world’s focus on Hong Kong not only as an international financial centre but also the gateway to and from the Greater Bay Area and the rest of China, the uniqueness of the city and the roles it is going to play in the coming years have been the topics frequently discussed by the guests, as well as how to fully access and grow with the Greater Bay Area and how to develop local talents. Other topics include law and order, business and investment environment, medical and scientific advances, new technology, food and textile industries, and arts and culture.

A heart-warming segment of the show is when the guests are asked to present an item or a special moment in their life that has special meaning to them or forged their Lion Rock Spirit. Some of the guests recall the hardships and challenges they overcame whist studying overseas, or when they started their businesses or pursuing their dreams. There is also an interesting collection of items that represent the guests’ Lion Rock Spirit, such as an old briefcase, a matchbox toy car, a notebook, an old typewriter, a poem, a watch, a piano certificate, a roly-poly toy, an aircraft model, a portrait, laboratory tweezers and gunny bag hooks.

Another interesting segment of the program is the Rapid-Fire questions where the guests are put on the spot to respond with short crisp answers that come to their minds. Guess what is their favourite comfort food? Where would they bring new visitors to Hong Kong? Their hidden talent that people don’t know of? Their proudest moment? Advice they give to their younger self? The qualities they most admire about their parents? and how will Hong Kong look like in five years?

To find out these answers and more, watch the Special Bonus Episode of Friday Beyond Spotlights tonight at 8:30pm on the HKIBC channel (#76).
