Four ointment products for skin disease tested with unsafe ingredients
The Department of Health appealed to the public not to buy or use four types of topical products as they were found to contain undeclared controlled drug ingredients.
Samples of the four products were collected from a retail stall in Sham Shui Po for analysis by DH upon a public complaint.
All those products were tested containing undeclared controlled drug ingredients, clobetasol propionate, ketoconazole and miconazole, which are Part 1 poisons under the Pharmacy and Poisons Ordinance.
Clobetasol propionate is a steroid substance for treating inflammation. Inappropriate application of steroids could cause skin problems and side effects such as moon face, adrenal insufficiency and osteoporosis.
Ketoconazole and miconazole are used to treat fungal infections with side effects including local irritation and sensitivity reactions.
DH advise the public to stop using the products concerned and consult professionals if in doubt or feeling unwell after use.
