Four lawmakers-elect including Peter Koon 'win' LegCo offices
Only four newbies elected to Legislative Council, including Reverend Canon Peter Koon Ho-ming, got to move their offices into the Legislative Council Complex.
The number of lawmakers in the coming term will increase from 70 to 90 following Beijing's electoral changes. Yet, the expansion of the LegCo complex will be completed only in mid-2025, and for the time being, half of the lawmakers-elect will have to set up their offices in the adjacent CITIC Tower.
Incumbent lawmakers can keep their offices in the complex, leaving only four vacant offices available to newbies.
It was understood that the four lawmakers-elect who "won" their LegCo offices are; Wong Kwok from Hong Kong Federation of Trades Unions, vice-chairman of The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce Rock Chen Chung-nin, Scott Leung Man-kwong from Kowloon West New Dynamic, and Koon.
It was understood that three vacant offices are on the eighth floor of the complex, while the remaining one is on the sixth floor, where most pro-establishment camp lawmakers work. Chen, a member of The Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong, is expected to move into the office on the sixth floor.
According to documents released by LegCo Secretariat, the 13th and 15th floors of CITIC Tower will house 21 and 24 lawmakers, respectively. The offices will provide individual rooms to lawmakers, but their staff members will have to work in open offices.
The LegCo Commission has decided that the original floor plan and renovation of CTIC Tower will be kept to protect the environment and save taxpayers' money.
