Four arrested for over 200 June 4 graffiti paintings throughout city
Two men and two women aged 21 to 22 were arrested by police for criminal damage over 200 graffiti paintings related to June 4 Tiananmen Square crackdown throughout the city.
Police first found 53 graffiti paintings on different public facilities in Tsuen Wan after receiving reports from a dozen citizens on June 3.
The next day, officers also spotted about 190 identical graffiti paintings in Wong Tai Sin, Mong Kok, Sham Shui Po and Yau Ma Tei.
It was understood that the graffiti paintings were all related to the June 4 incident. The case was then listed as criminal damage and handled by Tsuen Wan district crime squad.
After investigation and analysis, police arrested two men and two women aged 21 to 22 in Tsuen Wan, Wong Tai Sin, Mong Kok and Tseung Kwan O between last Saturday (Jun 4) and Thursday for criminal damage.
Officers seized 45 cans of paint spray, two graffiti molding boards and some clothes worn by the suspects during the operation.
Among them, a man and a woman, both aged 21, were released on bail. They must report to police in early July. The other two were remanded in custody.
Police noted that the investigation is still ongoing and warned citizens that criminal damage is a serious offense with a maximum penalty of 10-year imprisonment upon conviction.
