Foundation works between Kowloon and Olympic station resumed
The foundation works near railway facilities between Kowloon MTR station and Olympic MTR station were resumed, after the works were previously suspended over a problem with the settlement.
According to the government spokesperson, a reading recorded on September 7 at one of the settlement monitoring checkpoints installed in the tunnel between the two stations had slightly exceeded the pre-set trigger level for works suspension.
The works for the railway protection area of the project were suspended on the same day as well.
The contractor then requested to resume the works after submitting an investigation report to the Architectural Services Department and a proposal of mitigation measures.
Alongside MTR Corp, the Architectural Services Department and the Buildings Department confirmed the structural safety of the relevant railway facilities, while the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department confirmed the safe operation of the railway.
MTR Corp has also been consulted, and confirmed that the resumption of the works will not cause an adverse effect to the relevant railway facilities and operation of the railway.
The EMSD also verified that stringent monitoring measures have been implemented by MTR Corp regarding the resumption of works to ensure the safety of the railway operation.
The request for resumption was then accepted on Monday and the relevant suspended works will resume on Tuesday.
The spokesman added government departments and MTR Corp will continue to closely monitor the situation to ensure the structural safety of railway facilities and the safe operation of the railway.
