Fortune teller arrested for falsely claiming to be recognized by the government
A 32-year-old woman who practices "human design" fortune telling was arrested on Tuesday for falsely claiming that she was recognized by the government.
The Customs and Excise Department received a report earlier that a woman operating fortune-telling and astrology consulting services claimed that her professional and academic qualifications were recognized by the government.
The Unfair Trade Practice Investigation Group then launched an investigation and confirmed with relevant government departments that the claim was untrue.
The department sent officers in disguise to the woman's service office in Kwun Tong on Tuesday and arrested her for allegedly making false statements.
It was understood that the woman operated the "human design"- a type of fortune-telling that mainly helps customers understand their personality characteristics to analyze their career choices and other life plans.
There are specific human design courses, but the government has no official certification of the relevant qualifications.
The C&ED reiterated that customers should carefully verify the qualifications claimed by any business and report suspected illegal operators to the department.
