Foreign domestic helper dies from fall while cleaning window of Lai Chi Kok flat
A foreign domestic helper in Hong Kong fell to her death while cleaning a window of a flat at Lai Chi Kok on Monday.
The woman was working inside a flat in Tower 6 of Manhattan Hill on Po Lun Street when the incident happened around 11.23 am.
It is understood that the worker accidentally fell off the building onto a platform below while cleaning a window.
She was rushed to Caritas Medical Centre, where she was declared dead later despite resuscitation attempts.
The SAR government in 2017 introduced a window ban for helpers following several incidents that saw helpers fell to their deaths while cleaning the windows.
According to the government, all maids hired or renewing contracts from January 1, 2017, could not be asked to clean the outside of any window above ground level unless the opening was fitted with a secured grille and no part of their body except for arms should extend beyond the ledge.
