Many families flock to Mong Kok flower market this morning to buy fresh flowers on Mother's Day.
Some children were buying roses and carnations out of their own pockets. A boy named Mak said the crowd was almost back to pre-pandemic levels, and he spent HK$250 on fresh flowers for his mother.
However, flower shop owner Hung expects a drop in business this year due to the continuous rainfall. She also attributed the lack of business to the cautious spending across customers.
Hung states that she set a lower price range for the carnations and roses despite the rise in import prices and has no plans to cut the price to increase her business.
Some families enjoyed dim sum to celebrate the special day.
A manager of a Chinese restaurant in Mong Kok expected business could recover to pre-pandemic levels, despite seeing fewer dinner bookings.
He said the restaurant saw a 10 percent growth in business during breakfast and lunch hours.
Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu also pay tributes to mothers in Hong Kong on his social media, along with stating that he has prepared flowers for the two important mothers in his life - his wife and his mother.
