Five teenagers arrested for taxis stolen in Tuen Mun
Tuen Mun police on Monday announced that five youngsters were arrested as involved in four taxi theft cases.
Police received multiple reports of taxis stolen between March 4 to 17 and recovered the four missing taxis in Tuen Mun. Many belongings inside the cabs were lost, including HK$700 in cash, dashcams and driver's licenses.
Five teenagers aged 15 to 16, who claimed to be students and unemployed, were arrested in the early hours of yesterday morning in Tuen Mun.
"They targeted the taxis that parked at taxi stops late at night and drove away before looting cash and valuables inside the cab," said the officers. "Some of the taxis were unlocked or with spare keys left over."
Police noted that all arrestees were underage and had no driving licenses, suggesting they probably conducted the crimes for joyrides.
The five are now detained for inquiry, and police did not rule out the possibility of further arrest.
