Five snagged in $17.8m drugs drive

Two males, including a 17-year-old boy, will appear in Kowloon City Magistrates’ Court tomorrow in connection with possessing 22 kilograms of drugs worth HK$17.8 million.
The boy, along with a 39-year-old man - both jobless, were charged with one count of trafficking in dangerous drugs each, whereas the latter was also charged with one count of manufacturing of dangerous drugs.

They were among five people to be arrested inside a Hung Hom hotel, a Tsuen Wan industrial building and a Wong Tai Sin tenement building on Friday.

Three others, three men aged 16 to 20, were arrested for conspiracy to traffic in a dangerous drug.

They have been released on bail pending investigation and should report to the police next month.

Throughout the Friday operation, police also seized 13 kilograms of ketamine hidden in 13 packs of tea leaves, 6.8 kilograms of heroin compressed into 17 bricks, 941.7 grams of cocaine, 267 grams of crack cocaine, a small dose of ‘ice’, HK$20,000 in cash and a batch of drug making tools.

Police believed they had prevented the involved drugs from circulating into the local market.

They also reminded parents to guard against recruitment of their children in illegal activities during the summer break, as three of the arrestees were below 18.
