The government announced on Wednesday that most community testing centers and stations for Covid-19 nucleic acid tests would be closed from next Wednesday, with only five to remain in operation for self-paid Covid tests.
The five testing stands included Edinburgh Place in Central, Leighton Hill Community Hall in Causeway Bay, Henry G Leong Yau Ma Tei Community Centre, Lek Yuen Community Hall in Sha Tin, and Yuen Long Town East Community Hall.
"The demand for nucleic acid tests sharply plummeted as most places over the world have canceled the requirement for presenting
Covid test results before overseas visitors' arrival," said the government.
The remaining five testing centers will be on service for self-paid tests from 10 am to 8 pm daily, with a break between 1.30 pm to 2 or 2.30 pm for deep cleaning and disinfection.
The rapid nucleic acid testing center operating 24 hours a day at Hong Kong International Airport will still be available for self-paid tests.
"The 16 to-be-defunct testing points will be released and reverted to their original uses," said the government.
