Five arrested for daring knife attack outside Kwun Tong Court
Five people, including a Pakistani man and a Filipina, were arrested Tuesday over the knife attack that took place right outside the Kwun Tong Law Courts Building on January 19.
The 32-year-old man – slashed violently and bathed in blood – was once in critical condition as he sustained four injuries to his feet and back. He had been bleeding profusely and had one of his legs amputated to save his life in the end, police said in a briefing Wednesday.
It was understood that the victim was arrested alongside his friends by customs over a drug trafficking case in Lam Tin last June.
Chief inspector Yau Chong-tai from East Kowloon crime headquarters said officers successfully identified the attackers after intelligence analysis and in-depth investigations and believed the case involved benefits of a drug trafficking ring.
Police then arrested three local men, a Pakistani man and a Filipina aged 23 to 28 throughout the city on Tuesday for wounding.
The five were reportedly the attackers, the driver and owner of the getaway car, and the one who helped keep a lookout.
They remain remanded in custody, and police will initiate prosecutions against some of them soon, Yau noted.
The mastermind who orchestrated the attack is believed to have fled Hong Kong already, and police have also issued an arrest warrant.
Police called on citizens who witnessed the attack or have relevant information to reach out to East Kowloon anti-triad unit by dialing 3661 0111.
