First responders attempt rescue of suicidal man at Sha Tin mall
First responders were called to New Town Plaza in Sha Tin on Friday after a middle-aged man was seen standing on a beam on the seventh floor in an apparent suicide attempt.
Authorities were first alerted of the incident at around 12.16 pm after the man filed a report himself claiming he was having suicidal thoughts. He was later discovered by passersby to have climbed over the railings on the seventh floor of the mall and walked onto a beam.
It is understood that the man was from the mainland and had difficulty handling personal matters in Hong Kong.
As of 2 pm, the man had to be talked down, and firefighters deployed air cushions as a safety precaution.
