Fifty candidates from HK Federation of Trade Unions to stand in election for labour subsector
The Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions has sent 50 candidates to stand in the election for the Labour Subsector of the Election Committee.
The nomination period for the elections began today.
These 50 candidates will stand in the election for the Labour Subsector, while other members of the federation will stand in the elections for other subsectors, including grassroots associations, area committees of Hong Kong and Kowloon, and representatives of Hong Kong members of relevant national organizations.
The union hoped to enter the election committee and to elect responsible lawmakers. They also wished to continue to fight for well-being for workers and to safeguard the “Patriot rules Hong Kong” principle, ensuring the long term success of “One Country, Two Systems.”
As for Heung Yee Kuk New Territories, 27 candidates filed the nomination at Southern Centre in Wan Chai this afternoon to stand in the election for the Heung Yee Kuk Subsector.
Heung Yee Kuk N.T. said it supports the government on imposing electoral changes. It also hoped that the next chief executive and lawmakers in the future will listen to its suggestion and support the development of the New Territories.
It added that the city faces different challenges in the recent years and it is a tough job for chief executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor. It said Lam has done a pretty good job so far.
