Fiery morning sees blaze at cha chaan teng and hotel, one injured
A 53-year-old female sustained injuries to her face after a fire broke out at a cha chaan teng in a residential estate in To Kwa Wan on Wednesday morning.
Firefighters received a report at around 5 am today that the diner was on fire when the injured, surnamed Yeung, was cooking breakfast in the kitchen. She was burned on her face as she failed to escape the fire on time.
Rescuers put a face mask on Yeung’s face for treatment and sent her to the hospital.
Also at around 5 am, The Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Central saw flames.
The hotel staff found that a wine cabinet had burst into flames and called the police. Officers put out the fire and assumed the accident was caused by a short-circuit in the cabinet’s wiring after a preliminary investigation.
