Female cop bound over after using police database to check on husband
A 33-year-old female cop was bound over for two years on Friday after she used the police database to check on her husband's background in 2018 and said that it was only for fun.
Pamelamiyu Poon Yuen-ting was charged with obtaining access to a computer with a view to dishonest gain, for using a computer to check on her husband, surnamed Wong, without authorization in the Tsuen Wan Police Station on June 23, 2018.
Poon appeared in West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts on Friday and agreed with the summary of facts. She was granted a two-year bind-over order for HK$1,500 by magistrate Cheng Lim-chi.
She must behave and not commit any crime involving dishonest intention again during the two years.
Police internal assessment found that Poon, without any authorization, used the police database to check on the background of a man called Wong Chun-kit in Tsuen Wan Police Station on June 23, 2018.
Police then questioned Poon over this matter in September last year, and Poon answered that she didn't remember any of this and didn't know the man Wong in person. However, police later found that Wong was Poon's husband.
The investigation continued, and in November last year, Poon, under police caution, admitted that she entered her husband's identity card numbers on the police database to check on him "for fun."
