Kwai Chung Hospital announced late Saturday that a piece of false ceiling at the corridor of a psychiatric ward fell down on Friday. No patients nor staff were injured.
The false ceiling, measuring approximately 60 centimeters by 31 centimeters, fell off at the corridor of a female general adult psychiatric ward on Friday night, according to the spokesman.
Hospital staff secured the false ceiling and checked adjacent parts for safety. An inspection of all false ceilings in the ward concerned was also conducted, and no abnormality was noted. The incident did not involve structural safety.
The hospital has earlier engaged a term maintenance contractor to conduct safety inspections on facilities and building structures. According to the record, part of the false ceilings at the ward concerned were opened for safety examination by the contractor last month.
The hospital has reported the incident to the Hospital Authority Head Office via the Advance Incident Reporting System.
Separately, the spokesman for Castle Peak Hospital said that the repair work of a multi-purpose room, temporarily suspended from use due to spalling concrete last month, was completed on Saturday.
However, it was found during the inspection that some mortar for repairing the concrete were detached from the repair site and fell on the false ceiling.
Immediate re-enclosure and repair of the site were arranged. No patients or staff were injured in the incident, and patient service was not affected.
The Term Maintenance Surveyor of the Hospital will investigate the cause of the incident in various aspects, such as workmanship, materials, methods and supervision.
The hospital has also arranged a comprehensive inspection of the repair works handled by the same Term Maintenance Contractor to ensure safety.
