Easing social distancing measures will cause few risks to the city with LeaveHomeSafe redundant for tracing Covid cases and the four-people gathering ban unnecessary, said a medical expert.
Speaking on a radio program on Tuesday, respiratory doctor Leung Chi-chiu said it is currently the “golden time” to lift the social distancing measures, noting the most important step is to loosen curbs on the economy and citizens’ daily life.
“Time limits for serving hours and headcount in restaurants should be stamped out firstly,” he said, claiming authorities could launch a review on the disease-controlling situation every two weeks to consider further broadened relaxation management.
He also mentioned the LeaveHomeSafe check-in could be scrapped as it has contributed to only a few
Covid cases traced under the implementation of the
Vaccine Pass.
Besides, Leung said the public gathering ban on groups of four has become “useless” since diners flock to premises like restaurants and shopping malls anyway.
However, he has reservations about removing the mask-wearing rule, citing concerns about the outbreak of influenza in winter.
