Elderly Hong Kong residents to be allowed to rent 312 designated flats for HK$1.2m upfront sum
The Housing Society announced on Tuesday that 312 residential flats will be provided to accommodate senior residents with a minimum rental fee of HK$1.2 million paid in a lump sum.
According to the Housing Society, the flats of its latest Senior Citizen Residence Scheme will be open for applicants visiting from Friday.
Under the project, elderly people aged 60 or over and holding valid Hong Kong identity cards with residency could apply for the 312 flats, which range from 235 to 403 square feet in size, of Blissful Place on Lee Kung Street in Hung Hom.
Applicants who had won the residency could move into the flats from this July.
The project adopted a "lease-for-life" model, said the Housing Society, and every eligible resident should pay a one-off entry contribution fee from HK$1.2 million to HK$2.65 million in accordance with their ages and the size of the flats they applied, Peter Or, General Manager (Sales and Marketing) of the Housing Society said.
He added the tenants would also be required to pay a monthly management service fee from HK$2,000 to HK$3,000 after they move into the flats.
The project would offer a residential building including 144 studio flats and 168 one-bedroom flats, Or said, with a sky garden, a clubhouse, and a residential care home for the elderly included.
Domestic appliances are also equipped in each flat, and multiple care services from medical to rehabilitation are also prepared, said Carmen Ng, General Manager (Elderly Services) of the Housing Society.
"We will also provide physical and mental health assessments to the tenants before they move in and conduct regular physical check-ups on them," she said.
"There are around 500 people now on the waiting list under the Senior Citizen Residence Scheme for the flats," Or said, "applicants could have a visit to the flats from this Friday."
