Rescuers were called to the flat at Mei Foo Sun Chuen at around 10 pm yesterday after a 33-year-old woman filed a report with authorities saying she had failed to reach his mother and grandfather for days.

The two were declared dead on the scene after rescuers forced their way into the flat, no suicide note was found.

Sources said the deceased were suffering from chronic illnesses and sustained no apparent injuries when found by the rescuers. It was learned that the elderly man suffered a heart-attack and collapsed at the living room and died while his daughter was starved to death.

Police were still investigating the incident and an autopsy will be carried out to determine the cause of their death.

The Social Welfare Department said Monday morning that it is highly concerned about the case and will approach the family concerned as soon as possible and render appropriate assistance according to their welfare needs.
