Elderly couple charged with killing ill daughter with hammer
An elderly couple was charged with murder for allegedly killing their chronically-ill daughter with a hammer in Tsz Wan Shan on Sunday.
The case was mentioned at Kowloon City Magistrate’s Court this morning. Leung, 74, and her 78-year-old husband Yue were arrested after the wife called the police saying she hit her 47-year-old daughter to death with a hammer in their flat.
The deceased, who has been chronically ill, was found with wounds to her head and neck. She was sent to Kwong Wah Hospital, where she was declared dead the same day.
The elderly couple is suspected of killing the daughter, who suffers from a chronic illness, due to the unbearable pressure of taking care of her, according to the police.
Officers said that the daughter and her parents have no record of mental illness, and the family did not seek help from the Social Welfare Department or friends and relatives.
Leung and Yue didn’t apply for bail, and they will be detained awaiting a trial on February 6 next year over the charge of a count of murder respectively.
