Eighty-year-old man accused of sexual assault on granddaughter
An 80-year-old retiree accused of indecently assaulting his granddaughter over a period of six years went on trial in the District Court today.
Lawyers in the court alleged the former security guard, whose name was shortened to T.S.H., made multiple unwelcome sexual advances toward the girl on numerous occasions between January 29 and March 15, 2013; March 1 and July 18, 2018, and from July 1 to July 18 in 2018. These unwanted sexual advances included forcibly kissing the girl and touching her private areas.
As learned from the testimony during the trial, the girl’s parents are in mainland China. She began living with the defendant - T.S.H - and her grandmother in 2013, when she was four years old. The defendant committed sexual assaults on her more than three times.
During the period when the abuse occurred, the girl attempted to seek help from her grandmother but was scolded for “defaming the grandfather,” according to the court.
It is also known from the court that the grandmother asked the girl to apologize to the defendant otherwise, the girl would not be allowed to keep living in Hong Kong, further admonishing the child as being “disgraceful” and telling her, “She should not tell anyone even if the grandfather did it.”
The grandmother is also reported to have covered up for the defendant by filming the girl secretly.
The case was revealed in 2021 when the girl talked to a teacher and a social worker after being injured in an argument with her grandmother.
