Eighty-five percent of parents have little faith in the Covid-19 vaccines and disagree with administering the shots to their kids aged five to 11, a recent survey has found.
The Alliance for Children Development Rights conducted the survey between October 3 and 7, where about 1,300 parents with kids aged five to 11 were interviewed online. Two-thirds of families have one kid, and 28 percent have two.
The government earlier lowered the age limit of the
vaccine pass arrangement to five and mandated youngsters aged five to 11 must have received at least one
Covid shot before being granted entry to restricted premises like restaurants, cinemas, and libraries starting from September 30.
The threshold will be tightened to two
vaccine doses starting from November 30.
According to the data released Tuesday, eighty-five percent of the parents surveyed gave scores of 1 to 5 out of 10 when asked about their faith in the
vaccines, with 60 percent giving just 1 mark out of 10.
Only 15 percent of parents expressed their faith in the
vaccines, giving marks between 6 and 10.
Eighty-five percent of parents oppose vaccinating their kids, and two-thirds “completely disagree” with the vaccination of children.
The most decisive factor is the
vaccine’s effects on kids, followed by the clinical trial data and the will of children.
More than three-fifths said there should not be any entry requirement imposed on kids, and 27 percent said they are fine with replacing the vaccination with taking a rapid antigen test (RAT). Only six percent agree that child vaccination should be the sole condition of the
vaccine pass arrangement.
“If the government insists on lowering the age limit of the
vaccine pass, the move will definitely damage children’s freedom to enter places, affect their social needs, and violate their development right and the right to participate in events,” the alliance said.
The alliance continued that it has been around three years since the
Covid-19 pandemic emerged, which seriously impacted children’s cognition, language, and physical development. Therefore, it called on the government to scrap the measure to allow children’s lives to return to normal.
