Eight arrested for Yuen Long murder that stemmed from noise complaint
Police were said to have arrested eight individuals in connection to a murder that saw a man die in a knife attack near his Yuen Long home as he walked to work before daybreak last month.
The incident happened outside an HSBC branch on Yuen Long Hong Lok Road in the New Territories near its junction with Castle Peak Road at around 3.43 am on March 29.
Emergency personnel on that day found the 70-year-old victim, surnamed Chan, suffered multiple cut wounds and lying unconscious in a pool of blood on the pavement. He was taken to Pok Oi Hospital but later died.
Initial post-mortem results revealed that the deceased died of excessive bleeding due to multiple cut wounds.
Police have arrested seven men and a woman, aged 23 to 65, following their investigation. Among the arrestees, a 32-year-old man and a 65-year-old man were jointly charged with one count of murder.
The 32-year-old man was also jointly charged with one count of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice with another 30-year-old man and a 33-year-old man.
The case was mentioned at Tuen Mun Magistrates’ Courts this afternoon. The other three arrestees will be released on bail and are required to report back to Police in late May.
It is understood that one of the masterminds of the murder is the owner of a restaurant near the building where the victim lived.
The victim - a member of the building's owners' corporation, was said to have followed up on a noise complaint from residents regarding the restaurant. Sources said the episode may have been the cause of the murder.
