East Rail trains to stop at new positions to prepare for platform gates installation
MTR announced on Tuesday that 25 platforms of the East Rail Line would see the stopping positions of trains adjusted starting from Sunday (Feb 19) as platform gates would be installed soon.
The platforms of the section from Lo Wu/ Lok Ma Chau to Mong Kok East stations would have new stopping positions for trains to ensure they would be aligned with the new platform gates.
Under the adjustment, passengers have to board and alight from the train following the zone with grey platform signage for queueing. The former blue ones would be removed.
The existing queuing positions for the first and last cars, as well as that for the first-class carriage, would also be relocated.
A total of 35 platforms in 13 stations along the East Rail Line will be installed with about 1,600 pairs of platform gates.
The installation will kick off at Racecourse and Tai Po Market stations, then gradually proceed to other East Rail Line stations.
"The implementation of the new train stopping positions will help minimize the platform gaps and bring a more even distribution of passengers, facilitating them to board and alight from trains smoothly," said Jeny Yeung Mei-chun, Hong Kong Transport Services Director of MTR Corporation.
