East Rail Line automatic gates to be fully installed late 2025: MTR Corp
The work of installing automatic platform gates at East Rail Line MTR stations has begun, with the first being the Racecourse station in Sha Tin, MTR Corp Ltd said on Saturday, adding that the work is expected to finish by the end of 2025.
The installation work at the Tai Po Market station will begin by the end of this month, MTR said and will be expanded to Sha Tin Station, Tai Wai Station, Lok Ma Chau Station, and Sheung Shui Station next year.
The work will see some 1,600 pairs of automatic platform gates, with their total length at about 8,000 meters, installed at a total of 35 platforms of 13 stations.
The platform gates were produced on the mainland, and the project cost about HK$510 million.
MTR said the installation work could only be carried out at night between 2 am and 4 am so that the daily train service won’t be disrupted.
During the work, the teams must also strictly adhere to relevant environment codes, especially those related to noise control for work at nighttime.
For one station, only two to three nights can be arranged for the installation work at most, and installation work for each platform will complete in about three to six months on average.
