Duo arrested in ‘upskirt’ case involving over 30,000 photos and videos
Hong Kong Police arrested two men on Monday for running an “upskirt website”, publishing over 30,000 “upskirt” photos and videos.
The two, aged 36 and 33, were said to be an administrator of the website and a “photographer” providing the photos and videos respectively. The “photographer” was accused to have filmed women in the city’s MTR stations, and in shopping malls.
They were arrested for conspiracy to outrage public decency, and have been currently detained for further investigation.
The force said the website has been up and running since 2017, having over 50,000 members.
“The website encourages people to take ‘upskirt’ photos and publish them on the website. It also put up these photos or videos for sale, after which the administrator will use the money to buy point cards and resell them to make these illegally-gained proceeds appear legal,” said a police spokesman.
The force did not rule out the possibility of further arrests.
When asked if those who purchased the photos and videos will also bear legal consequences, the spokesman said the arrests made will depend on the content they have downloaded, which people may be arrested for possession of child pornography.
