A slight drop in temperature has already prompted Hongkongers to buy more frozen food for hotpot.
It is 21 degrees Celsius Sunday evening. Temperature is forecast to drop further in the later part of the week, reaching 19 degrees Celsius this Friday.
A frozen meat shop operator said that more people have bought beef, soup base and other ingredients for hotpot in the past one or two days — bringing a 20 to 30 percent increase in income.
He said that the shop has prepared more stocks as the weather is turning cooler.
A person in charge of a hot pot restaurant in Yuen Long said that booking for next week is full.
"Thanks to the consumption vouchers and the relaxed social restriction rules, our business has increased by 20 percent to 30 percent recently with each customer spends about HK$400 to HK$500," he said.
He expected to have more eating hotpots when the weather turns cooler, and the per capita spending is also expected to increase accordingly.
