Driver arrested in Lok Ma Chau for smuggling HK$6m worth of mobile phone parts
Customs on Thursday arrested a 62-year-old driver as they busted a smuggling case involving mobile phone parts worth about HK$6 million at the Lok Ma Chau control point.
Officers mounted an operation at the Lok Ma Chau control point yesterday (Thu) and intercepted an inbound container truck declared to be carrying ink and ink cartridges.
Upon inspection, a batch of suspected smuggled mobile phone parts was found inside the container.
About 200,000 suspected smuggled mobile phone parts, including circuit boards, display screens, and camera lenses, with an estimated market value of about HK$6 million, were seized.
The 62-year-old male driver suspected of being connected to the case was arrested. Customs said he is now assisting in the investigation.
Customs warned the public that smuggling is a serious offense. Any person found guilty of importing or exporting unmanifested cargo could face a maximum fine of HK$2 million and seven years imprisonment.
