Don’t run in Legco election, Carrie Lam told Jasper Tsang
Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor and authorities may be doing all they can do to encourage people to run in the upcoming Legislative Council election in December, but former Legco president Jasper Tsang Yok-sing was given the no-go advice.
In a forum yesterday, Lam spoke about Hong Kong’s development in the coming five years, and when she talked about the upcoming Legco election on December 19, she encouraged people who are passionate about Hong Kong to come forward and take part in it.
But then she turned around to Tsang, who was also one of the guest speakers, and jokingly asked him not to make a comeback.
“You’ve been the Legco president, there’s no reason for you to downgrade yourself and become a lawmaker again,” she said to Tsang.
However, Lam’s remarks to Tsang in her speech was not included in the transcript released by the Information Services Department.
Tsang, 74, was once named as one of the dark horses for next year’s Chief Executive election. But he has publicly said he has no intention to take part in the race to become the city’s top leader.
