A bottlenose dolphin passed away today, Ocean Park said this evening. The dolphin is a 7-year-old female Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin, called Milo. She was born in the Park in 2014 and lived in the Marine Breeding and Research Centre.
She was examined at midday yesterday because of reduced appetite, yet her blood work and examination was fine. She was then given a preventative treatment and appeared to be in good and stable condition by the end of the day, according to the Park.
However she passed away unexpectedly in the early morning today. A necropsy was conducted to investigate the cause of her death, with preliminary findings suggesting a rapidly acute hemorrhagic enteritis, the cause of which is still being investigated.
The Park added that there are 21 Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins residing there. They have also notified the Hong Kong Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department of the incident.
