The man ran a dog shelter where officers found two extremely thin adult dogs. Four puppies were locked inside a cage where there was insufficient food and water.

Police were on the scene after receiving a report from a 38-year-old man at around 8pm yesterday, saying there was a bad smell spreading from a stone house in Yeung Uk Tsuen. The police found six dogs in total, they are the breed of Mini Pinscher and Vizsla.

Two of the dogs appeared to be underweight, while four of the dogs, with dirty and urine-soaked hair, were kept in cages without food and water. The police then contacted the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) to help with the investigation.

Upon initial investigation, police arrested the 46-year-old pet owner for cruelty to animals, Yuen Long crime investigation team is now following up the case. All dogs were brought to SPCA Wai Chai Center for vet inspection.

Sources said the stone house might be an illegal animal breeding farm, as the man who lived in the stone house alone has used the house to keep dogs for almost 10 years. Some villagers in Yeung Uk Tsuen said a bad smell always spread from the stone house.

Villagers said someone was selling dogs that breed in the dog shelter as they once saw a buyer picking up the dogs at the village entrance. They tried to file a complaint on this incident but failed in the end.
