Police were alerted to an incident in Ma On Shan where a car ran over a dog and fled, with the dog being euthanized due to its severe injuries.
According to the surveillance video, a
Mercedes-Benz car ran over a dog lying by the roadside in an open area at Whitehead on Thursday (May 11).
A barbecue site staff member rushed out and tried to stop the vehicle but in vain. He then checked the dog's condition and took him in for emergency medical care.
The police were informed around 3 pm that day and listed the case as a traffic incident involving an animal.
An animal welfare social media page on Saturday (May 13) revealed that the 13-year-old dog pack leader had to be euthanized after suffering from ruptured organs.
Dog lovers were angered and revealed that the police were able to contact the driver but were met with a cold response, leading to many netizens scolding the driver.
The driver's car was also later discovered spray painted with the words 'murderer' in Chinese at Diamond Hill.
