The Taiwanese documentary “Taiwan equals love” is one of the movies featured in the EU-Aisa Rainbow Docs, a film festival presented by the European Union Office in Hong Kong and Macau and the Goethe-Institut Hongkong in association with the Broadway Cinematheque.

The Broadway Cinematheque wrote on its Facebook yesterday, saying that the documentary will be pulled from the LGBT film festival.

“The Film Censorship Authority did not authorize the screening of the full documentary. We jointly decided to cancel the screenings of the film, in accordance with our agreed policy not to screen censored films in this programme,” the statement wrote.

Ticket holders can ask for a refund by bringing their tickets to the cinema in Yau Ma Tei.
Those who purchased tickets online or via the Broadway mobile app will receive an automatic refund between 30 to 60 working days.

The Office for Film, Newspaper and Article Administrationsaid said all movies shown in Hong Kong are assessed according to the Film Censorship Ordinance and Film Censorship Guidelines for Censors.

“Taiwan equals love” is a documentary about three couples’ reactions over same-sex marriage debate in Taiwan between 2016 to 2019.

The EU-Asia Rainbow Docs will be held between June 30 and July 10.
