Director caught in privacy row over student doccie named vice-chairwoman of HK film council
Hong Kong director Mabel Cheung Yuen-ting was on Friday reappointed as the vice-chairwoman of the Hong Kong Film Development Council for a two-year term from April 1.
Cheung previously directed a well-regarded documentary, “To My Nineteen-Year-Old Self,” that has been drawn into controversies over privacy concerns.
Under the turmoil, Cheung apologized for not getting consent for public screening from six girls featured in the local documentary and later announced the cancelation of the screenings.
The government announcement on Friday also saw Wilfred Wong Ying-wai reappointed as chairman of the council, while several incumbent council members have also been reappointed, including actor Gordon Lam Ka-tung, actress Sylvia Chang Ai-chia, and chairman of the Hong Kong Movie Production Executive Association Debbie Lam Shuk-yin.
Separately, the chairman of Ocean Park Corporation, Paulo Pong Kin-yee, and former Political Assistant to the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Elizabeth Fung Hoi-yung, were among eight new members appointed to the council.
