Deputy Financial Secretary Michael Wong Wai-lun tested positive for Covid-19 through a polymerase chain reaction-based nucleic acid test, his office announced Wednesday.
His infection comes days after Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu also contracted
Covid following a four-day trip to Bangkok, but Wong did not accompany the CE on the visit and had not left Hong Kong recently.
A spokesperson for his office said Wong tested positive via a PCR test and noted that he had worn masks and followed disease prevention measures at work, including conducting rapid antigen tests regularly.
He is undergoing isolation in accordance with the Centre for Health Protection’s guidelines.
Wong has no recent travel history and last went to work yesterday. He wore masks and regularly followed disease prevention measures at work, including conducting
Covid-19 rapid antigen tests (RATs).
His wife, Commissioner for Labour May Chan Wing-shiu, will undergo home quarantine following the center’s guidelines.
She has conducted RATs regularly with negative results obtained, as is the case today.
The Deputy Financial Secretary’s office will carry out thorough cleaning and disinfection at the office concerned.
