Deer antlers valued at HK$20m seized in joint operation by marine police and customs
Marine police and customs on Thursday night arrested two mainland men during a joint operation as they detected a smuggling case and seized about 1,600 kg of deer antlers worth about HK$20 million on a speedboat in the waters west of Hong Kong.
Officers first spotted a suspicious speedboat entering the waters west of Hong Kong around 8.30 pm last night and sailing towards Black Point in Tuen Mun.
The speedboat pulled over by the Lung Kwu Sheung Tan shore and stayed for about 20 minutes before heading towards mainland waters at a high speed.
Officers laid an ambush and successfully intercepted the speedboat southwest of Black Point, about 1.3 km away from mainland waters.
Officers also raided the speedboat and discovered 43 boxes of smuggled deer antlers weighing about 1.6 tons.
The two mainland men, aged 38 and 45, were then arrested on suspicion of illegal entry and attempt to export unmanifested cargo. They are currently remanded in customs’ custody.
