Customs seizes dangerous drugs worth about HK$2.2m
Hong Kong Customs on Tuesday seized a batch of suspected dangerous drugs worth about HK$2.2 million in Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai. An 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old woman, both suspected to be connected with the case, were arrested.
About 1.2 kilograms of suspected crack cocaine and about 2.2kg of suspected cannabis buds were seized in the anti-narcotics operation, which was conducted in the vicinity of Yuen Long yesterday afternoon.
A Customs spokesman said officers yesterday intercepted a man and found about 1kg of suspected crack cocaine inside a paper bag carried by him. The man was then arrested.
The man was later escorted to a nearby residential flat rented by him for a search and officers further seized about 550 grams of suspected cannabis buds and a batch of drug packaging paraphernalia therein. A woman in the flat suspected to be connected with the case was also arrested.
Upon follow-up investigation, Customs officers on the same day further seized about 160g of suspected crack cocaine and about 1.6kg of suspected cannabis buds in the arrested man's residence in Tin Shui Wai.
The investigation is ongoing, according to the spokesman.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offense. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of HK$5 million and life imprisonment.
