Customs seeking 260 new inspectors and officers, recruiting until June 5
Customs will begin their latest recruitment exercise next Tuesday (May 16) with the goal of attracting 90 inspectors and 170 officers. The recruitment will run until June 5.
Customs staged an experience-cum-recruitment day at the Hong Kong Customs College in Tuen Mun today (Sat) with physical abilities tests demonstration shown to interested citizens.
Eddie Lai King-ho, Commandant of the Hong Kong Customs College, said their department saw a 4.6 percent turnover rate last year. Reasons for quitting included further studying, changing to other jobs, and retiring.
Lai admitted recruitment has become more difficult in recent years, but noted all industries and sectors are affected by the decrease in the total labor workforce.
He added the recruitment requirements are reasonable and appropriate, and customs so far have yet to make plans to lower the threshold.
Lai also said customs would strengthen promotion to students of local and mainland universities, as he noted customs was joined by some 1,200 students in a visit to GBA this March and received over 100 applications.
Lai reminded citizens interested in applying for their posts to prepare their academic documents and certificates in advance.
During the interview section of group discussion, candidates should also avoid making speeches too critical or aggressive. Instead, they should focus on their reasoning and presentation.
