Customs confiscate gas masks and helmets, arrest eight
Customs arrested eight people after raiding three locations, seizing strategic commodities including gas masks and helmets.
They were five men and three women aged between 19 and 33.
Customs officers raided a toy shop located at Ho King Commercial Building in Mongkok at around 3pm yesterday, confiscating 21 gas masks and six filters.
They then searched a flat at Chung Tak House, Chung On Estate in Ma On Shan at around 7 pm last night, arresting a man in his 30s and confiscating 20 boxes of masks.
At around midnight, they hit a shipment pick-up center at Attilio Building, Mongkok close to the toy shop. Officers took away a box and a bag of evidence.
The action came after an earlier media report saying the toy shop sells gear including laser pointers, knives and gas masks, as well as badges with political slogans. It questioned some items are in breach of the Import and Export (Strategic Commodities) Regulations and the national security law.
It was understood that strategic commodities involved in the case are 133 military grade “3M M40 Gas Mask”, 175 mask filters including “3M RBE 57 Filter” and “Fp5 Filter”, as well as four tactical helmets.
