The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was found to have switched back to its old university emblem on its website today, only seven days after the new one was in use.
The new emblems on CUHK’s official website and
Facebook page have been replaced with the original version.
Besides, it is learnt that the university will schedule a meeting tomorrow in which to report the plan of updating emblems to its council.
Lawmaker Bill Tang Ka-piu, one of the university’s council members, welcomed the return of the old emblem, saying that changing the emblems involved many relevant stakeholders and alums, thus needing more discussion.
CUHK released its new emblems with an official and simplified version last Monday to mark its 60th anniversary.
Apart from the layout of both versions’ colour changes, the simplified new emblem has excluded the university’s motto - “Through learning and temperance to virtue”.
The move drew criticism from the university’s council and many alums, who slammed the university for failing to conduct a public consultation before the logo change.
Last Wednesday, CUHK’s Vice-Chancellor and President Rocky Tuan Sung-chi published a statement on the university’s official website to promise that the university would “listen to the opinions” and not rush the changes.
